Looking for an 80 Piece Flatware Set?

A friend of mine asked me today where she could find an 80 piece flatware set. I asked here why she needed an 80 piece flatware set. She told me that her mother told her to get an 80 piece flatware set, so she started to search for a flatware set that had 80 pieces.

I decided to get to the bottom of her request. I didn’t want her to get an 80 piece flatware set if that wasn’t the right set for her. I wanted her to get the perfect flatware set that would serve her needs, with the right elegance, for the right price.

Her Biggest Occasion Each Year

I asked her what her biggest dinner occassion was each year. She told me that she always has a big thanksgiving party at her house and last year 19 people came.  She understood that flatware sets are always sold with an even number of place settings, so she needed a flatware set for 20 people. She figured that there would be a flatware set with 20 knives, 20 forks, 20 teaspoons, and 20 tablespoons. The total would be an 80 piece flatware set.

I mentioned to her that flatware sets were usually sold in 5 piece place settings, so this would include 20 teaspoons, 20 salad forks, 20 dinner forks, 20 tablespoons, and 20 dinner knives. This would not be an 80 piece flatware set, this would probably be a 100 piece flatware set.

We needed to find either an 80 piece flatware set, or a 100 piece flatware set. We needed a flatware set for 20.

The search for an 80 piece flatware set

First we searched the flatware shop at niceflatwaresets.net (which has the widest variety of flatware sets that we know of). Then we searched the whole Internet. We had difficulty finding any 80 piece flatware sets, so I came up with a unique idea. Why not buy two identical 45 piece flatware sets? She pointed out that this would only serve 16 people because each 45 piece flatware set serves 8 people.

I suggested that she buy three 45 pc flatware sets instead of an 80 piece flatware set. This would make a combined flatware set for 24 and would allow her to invite more people over for thanksgiving as her family grew over time. She was very happy with this solution and the 80 piece flatware set was achieved with a 135 piece flatware set. She doesn’t mind the extra 55 pieces, us women love more elegant things in our kitchen!
